How to Choose a Feng Shui
Consultant
Background:
Check how long the Feng Shui Practitioner (consultant)
has been practicing, how many teachers have they studied under and which Feng
Shui principals have they studied. Occupations they have had in the past should
add practical experience and skills to their Feng Shui
profession.
For example, Feng Shui has been popular in North America
for the last 20 years and Sharon Hay has been practicing for 10 years. She
graduated from the Western School of Feng Shui in California and continued her
studies with Professor Grandmaster Lin Yun, Master Joey Yap and the American
Feng Shui Institute. She has studied BTB Feng Shui, Compass School, Form
School, 5 Elements, 8 Mansions and Flying Star Feng Shui.
Sharon Hay was a
Real Estate Agent, a partner in a renovating company and has helped in
designing homes and offices.
Quality of
Work:
Because Feng Shui involves a
personal assessment of goals, it is very hard to get referrals. A way to check
a Practitioner's success is to check their website for a list of client's
results or testimonials. You can also ask for examples over the phone. Ask what
the Feng Shui issues the client wanted to address, the recommendations made and
the outcome.
Written Report:
The Practitioner's recommendations should be in writing.
They should be willing to have his/her changes monitored against actual
results. The practitioner may write or have the client write the
recommendations as they are discussed during the consultation. For time
purposes, businesses or office may receive a formal report after the
consultation.
Is a Compass Used?:
If a compass is not used, then the practitioner does not know Feng
Shui in depth. If only a Bagua Map is used then the client will only be advised
on the Feng Shui of the home and not the Feng shui of the occupants. A compass
is used for many Feng Shui calculations including the best directions for the
client to utilize for success in all areas of their life.
Do they take
Birthdate and Year into Consideration?:
To take accurate calculations, a practitioner must know the
home/office occupant's birth information. A practitioner who does not need
these facts is not considering how the home/office affects you, and is
therefore going to provide a diagnosis not of its benefits to you, but just of
its general Feng Shui ambience.
Cost
Ask if the practitioner charges by the job, hour or
square footage. Make sure you know how much it is going to cost, if there are
over-time costs, material costs and how long it is going to take. Ask if they
can do the job all in one day or do they need to come back.
Many Feng Shui
practitioners charge between $100 - $200/ hour for a home ($400 - $800 per
visit). Some charge $1000 - $5000 for businesses with 10 - 50 employees.
There is no guarantee what will happen after a consultation
but I can tell you that something will happen. The results vary
depending on how much and when a person makes the recommended changes. Some
results might not be what you expected but positive none the least. Sometimes
there are results in a few hours but usually within 2 to 6 weeks. The following

Unfortunately, there are no universal recognized qualifications in
the feng shui world for a Master.
A Master will often, but
not always, have his/her own school and pupils.
